Oh Glee, I have missed you.
I watched Audition yesterday and Britney/Brittany this morning, and essentially neither were Glee at it's finest, but both had some really awesome moments, and just generally they totally hitting the spot for Glee withdrawals. I just hope they do get to the good stuff - like, y'know, plot and character development that we know they can do so well - a little faster this season than last.
While watching Audition - I didn't realise that Charice, the girl playing Sunshine, was a guest starring popstar (oops) but I did think she was one of the best things about the episode, and my favourite song - both in sound and the scene it played out in - was actually when she and Rachel duetted at Gaga's Telephone. The girl's voice is awesome, it's deep and really rich and frankly, much nicer than Lea's, who accent (or auto-tuning?) seemed a bit shallow and sharp in comparison. Charice sounded so like Gaga at the beginning, but what I really loved was Rachel getting angry and Sunshine just having fun.
Also, there should be more short people on TV. JS.
Another thing - I spend plenty of energy trying to avoid Glee spoilers, but now I have to know. Please, please please let the sad looking blond boy be Kurt's new boyfriend. Please. He looks so gay. And was gazing at Finn a lot. Surely, it has to be him. With his freaking massive mouth and floppy hair and sad, wistful expression. Surely.
Oh and - apparently Matt has transferred, aka, left. Matt, who I Don't think had a single line last season. Well, maybe he had one? Huh. Shame. Well, at least Mike Chang is getting a bit more of a role, and taking his shirt off to boot.
Anyway, it was just a set up episode basically, nothing really happened except Rachel was an immature selfish bitch a bunch (um, no change there) which always makes me confused because it makes me really annoyed with Rachel as a character, but it makes me admire the writers and Lea for making such a frightful lead character. Quinn became head cheerleader again, so she just got reset apparently.
Here's a question - what is done to a ponytail to make it look like Quinn's, ie, with two kinda rolls, big lose curls within it? Do you just need a curling iron or something? I seriously think Dianna Agron is so so beautiful.
The Britney/Brittany ep is weird. It was like, completely plotless? It made even less sense than a normal Glee ep - half of it, and indeed of the songs, were gas induced hallucinations of self insert Britney videos, while actual Britney was on screen for maybe a minute or something. Also, the "plot" that there was revolved around Will and Emma and her dentist boyfriend, and Will was being all drippy and lame. So.
But, Brittany's character is genius, and getting some focus on her and Heather Morris' awesome skillz was very much appreciated. And I do like that they seem to be continuing with finding girls hot thing. Heather Morris' dancing was freaking amazing, and she absolutely looked like Britney Spears at points, so so much.
I would have preferred a couple of different Britney songs, and they should have given one to Kurt since he is clearly the biggest fan. Also, way too much Jacob ben-Israel, tone it down, ew. But I did really like the version of Toxic, and am now playing it over and over again. And again.
The single weirdest thing I think about the Britney ep is that after all the setting up of Audition, nothing happened at all, so it felt like both of them failed on the plot front - loads of time in Audition was spent on the probably gay blonde boy, but he wasn't featured or mentioned at all. Which is just - odd. I was unsure about a bunch of new characters coming in, not because I didn't want the dynamic to change so much as because some of the characters get so little attention as it is (er, hi Tina! Mercedes!) Neither mentioned were any kind of competition or getting new members or anything, and really, most of this ep might have been lifted straight out of the previous season, or could have been slotted in further into this one. Didn't feel grounded in the show as a whole as a result.
But whatever. It was Glee, and it made me smile, so I'm happy.
Now, can we please have less Rachel and Finn, and less Will and Emma, and instead more Quinn, Mercedes, Kurt, Santana, Brittany and Tina? K, thnx.
