A couple of things
Jul. 12th, 2009 09:54 amI tried to make another long post about my thoughts on Torchwood Children of Earth Day 5, and about the whole thing over all, but I couldn't really. I have so many fragments of thoughts, on such a variety of subjects and I haven't been able to make it coherent yet. Maybe I'll keep trying. Basically, I liked what they did with Jack but little else. I hated what they did with Ianto, but most other things I didn't hate so much as feel incredibly disappointed and irritated by them. Perhaps, like with a favourite teacher, its a worse reaction for me to be disappointed than really angry. I expect I probably will have to discuss it further here.
But, non Torchwood things!
On Friday night, it was my school leaving Ball. I was a little worried about how it would go, but everything was fine, though it was a little annoying the bar wouldn't sell us spirits ;) We all went clubbing afterward of course, but I didn't stay out too late, got home about 2ish. And then I watched Torchwood. OK, don't judge me, I swear I meant that to be a non Torchwood thing. Basically, last school student event went nicely - everyone looked gorgeous and laughed and danced a lot, including our teachers, the food was good and we had a great time!
Then yesterday, I went to a Leonard Cohen concert. It was brilliant. I've basically been brought up on Leonard Cohen but I'd never seen him live before and it was so so good. We were at Weybridge, which we think had about ten thousand people, and we were in the FOURTH ROW! We could see really well. It was so good. Also, Weybridge is outside. This being England in July, it was raining, of course, though not nearly as heavily as was forecast. At the time this was kinda annoying, but we had two waterproofs on each, and my brother and I had these over jeans and hoodies, so not that bad really, and tbh now I'm home and dry looking back it did add a bit of extra atmosphere. And it wasn't cold, it was just wet.
The concert was so good, totally completely worth it. I quietly sang or mouthed along to most songs, and especially during the encores, of which there were THREE, when everyone started singing certain lines, particularly reply phrases; he'd sing "First we take Manhattan" and the whole audience roared back "Then we take BERLIN!" The thing was just wonderful. I was pretty tired at the beginning of the day, thanks to going to bed at 3am and waking up a bit dehydrated, but it was amazing and I'm so happy we went, and had such excellent tickets. My brother and I both bought T-shirts which I expect will get plenty of wear. And I knew it was the case, but he had such energy, humour and vitality, and its so great to see that in him. He's very modest, but he was also clearly very happy, and that just makes me so happy too. If you'd asked me five years ago whether I thought I'd ever have the chance to see Leonard Cohen in concert I never would have thought it would be possible. And I did! Wow, it was just excellent.
And, this morning, I have been given a couple of Dreamwidth invite codes! If anyone would like one, let me know!
This week has been quite full, especially since it seemed to be filled without me really noticing. Today I think I might do very little, to welcome the beginning of my summer holidays proper, well, properly.
