Suffering week 1- sharing

This is the shared taster of a fanfic that I was writing last night for the weekly let_us_suffer challenge. The rest of the fic is pending, and will be posted when it is completed and beta-ed.

Fandom: Torchwood
Title: Shadows
Timeline: Set between Parting of the Ways and Everything Changes; also after School Reunion but before Army of Ghosts and Doomsday.
Rating: PG for possibility of violence
Spoilers: Just one general one for Everything Changes.
A/N: I've had this idea for ages and I'm glad to finally get going on it! This snippet is not the beginning of the fic, but it was the bit I wrote first and is kinda the beginning of the story proper.

“Are you working for Torchwood?”

 

The two voices that had spoken in unison echoed slightly in the silence that followed. Had they not been still pointing different levels of alien technology at one another the moment of confusion might have been funny.

 

Jack, being unable to die, would normally naturally have the upper hand in situations like that. However, the woman in front of him had a blaster that could take his head off and probably rend most of him into a fine red mist. And he wasn’t entirely sure how one could possibly come back from the dead after that.

 

Moreover this woman seemed very likely to go ahead and shoot him rather than answer his question. In fact, she looked quite likely to shoot him without even waiting for him to answer her question.

Ooh, what's going to happen...?
