altogetherisi: (darren criss is perfection)

Oh my goodness, he really, really is.

So I went to see his gig yesterday, and was left a wreck of a human being but insanely happy and completely unable to properly express all the emotions he made me feel omg. This morning... I still feel kinda wrecked actually. But I'm gonna give coherent sentences a shot.

I met Lal, after much "My coach is late!" "So is mine!" tweeting, just after 12 and it was wonderful to see her lovely face. We got the tube to the venue, which was in a bit of London I'd never been to before and knew nothing. Doors were supposed to be at 16.30, so we were about 4 hours early and what had seemed a perfectly sensible amount to of time to leave seemed perhaps overkill on the coach up? Like, maybe we would turn up and no one else would even be there yet.

Ha.

When we got there, there was already a queue the length of the building. So I'm pretty glad we didn't rock up later, when it went waaay down the street. It soon turned out, just after an impromptu and inconvenient session of being rained on, that in fact two queues had formed, one for the matinee we were going to and one for the evening performance afterwards. So we made sure we were in the correct queue.

And then we waited. For hours.

Luckily, Lal and I can talk about all manner of things without pause ie mainly TSN fandom, and also she had brought cookies, which were delightful during their short lifespan, and also the sun came out. My friend J arrived and joined us in the queue, and despite occasionally being shouted at that we were taking up too much of the pavement mainly those four hours seem to have been spent laughing, so that's good.

Eventually, they let us in. They threw away our food :( They greatest tragedy of the day. And then we waited a further hour, crushed up and getting really quite hot, before Darren came out.

I love him. I love him so muuuuuuuuch.

And there he was, in all his perfection, sounding beautiful and looking hot, mere metres from me. I found a crack between heads I could see him through and here's the Darren Criss miracle people: as the show went on, my view became better and better. I was so, so, happy.

I knew most of the songs he played but not quite all of them, and I quite like that in a gig, having a couple of new tracks to hear, but otherwise there was much singing along. I was really grateful for the proper sound system actually, because much of the time everyone was singing along a lot but Darren's voice wasn't drowned out, which I had actually feared a bit after the ustream-ed New York show. Man, his voice is just so good. Rich and raw and tender. God I love him.

Well, he was kinda drowned out at one point. When he was playing Sami, at the chorus we all sang 'Darren' instead of 'Sami', except really, really loud and slightly forcefully, I am not kidding, it was insistent. So more like we sang "DAAAAAAR-REN!!!" and at that point it was slightly tricky to hear him sing 'Sami' :P The look on his face, omg, it was lovely - he seemed genuinely surprised and kinda bashfully pleased and a touch embarrassed even. Priceless moment.

Joe Walker joined him during the Starkid set, which was happily longer than I'd been expecting. Dear Lord, Darren is perfection but Joe Walker is very very hot indeed. Confusingly so. The crowd screamed so much and  so long for him, both he and Darren actually looked slightly taken aback, like "Guys, hello? We're meant to sing now? Guys?" The Umbridge voice made a special appearance, awesomely.

I suppose the two most tender and heartfelt songs were Not Alone, during which I grabbed Lal's hand and wanted to start crying, and of course Teenage Dream, which Darren sang on his own to a reasonably quieted audience. They were both so, so beautiful, heart felt and also heart wrenching.

And then we finished with the full ten minutes of Gotta Get Back to Hogwarts, which seemed even more special somehow after bits of the queue had been singing it outside, and the audience had been singing it louder than the piped music inside while we waited for him, and now finally he was singing it and we were singing it with him. And also, you guys, that song. I know it's silly and fun and whatever, but I have so so much affection for it, seriously, it means so much to me. And Darren looked so incredibly happy singing it, and laughed a bit when we put in like, Goyle's line and stuff. I have never screamed "Slytherin!" with quite so much love and determination and pure joy.

And then it was over, and Lal and J and I were stumbling out on to the street, and to the pub, and we were all pretty much insanely happy, literally overjoyed, and practically incoherent with how good it had been and how our brains had been destroyed by the awesome.

Spent about an hour in pub, drinking Pimms and tweeting and laughing and I certainly felt totally overwhelmed by the whole experience.

J had to go catch her train first, and then Lal and I went about 20 minutes later, after I totally failed to get it together enough to go say hi to H who was in the queue for the next performance. I was left physcially exhausted, from standing around and getting crushed and stuff, vocally pained and emotionally not just drained but actually soaked and repeatedly wrung out. I was such a wreck, it's pretty amazing I got home and stuff - when I got to the coach stop part of me was like, you should go to this pub and have a strong drink and a long cry. SO MANY EMOTIONS.

I listened to Darren crooning "I... love... you." to me all the way home.

Christ but he's perfect.

OH MY GOD :'D

There is literally nothing else I can say except AHHH I WISH I COULD HAVE BEEN THERE BUT I'M SO GLAD YOU GUYS MANAGED TO GO AND HAVE SUCH A RIDIC AMAZING TIME (apart from the thrown-away doughnuts of course what kind of evil place does that??) AND YOU HAVE ACTUALLY MADE ME CRY A LITTLE BIT BECAUSE YES 'Gotta Get Back To Hogwarts' IS SUCH AN EPIC SONG. Like, it is silly and fun but it's also actually really heartfelt and truthful and basically amazing. I cried when they sang the refrain of it in AVPS so yeah, it means a lot to me. <3

I can also so imagine you screaming 'SLYTHERIN' at the top of your lungs. :P

IT WAS SOOOOO GOOOOOOD. My face was stuck like :D :D :D for days.

Apart from the doughnuts, obvs. That was evil. And I was all confused, like, what, wait, no, those are mine... ;___; I suppose it was they evil necessary to balance out the perfection we were about to encounter, otherwise the world would have ended or something.
