BRB reading all the fic, holiday
Apr. 17th, 2011 08:30 am So I am now totally and utterly obsessed by TSN fandom, specifically Mark/Eduardo, and have been reading reams and reams of fic with almost an air of determination like I can burn it onto my retinas or something and then I will be happy. The whole fictional characters/rpf/actors rpf/actors shipping their characters thing is slightly mind bending when I stop to think about it, but generally there has been little pause over the last, IDK, week. I don't want to stop, why would I want to stop.
I blame Lal.
It really is Lal's fault, because she linked me to it and then I became addicted, and then like the wonderful enabler she is I went to her house and we watched the movie and she gave me recs and basically she is the best and I am highly indebted to her.
Haven't had a new fandom in a while. It feels good. Really good.
Also, it occurs to me that I spent YEARS reading HP fic and I don't think I ever read one where someone got turned into a plant. Whereas, like, the fifth fic about non-magical geeks in love covers that. And very beautifully. What even.

Oh yeah, so I went to The North, which is four and a half hours away on the megabus, which is frankly the ugliest bus you have ever seen in your life and leaves from a bus stop I have to get two other buses to even get to. But it was more than worth it because when I got there I got to see lovely enabling Lal in her native environment and also lovely enabling Play with her partially purple hair, and we basically had a three day sleepover and it was Totally Awesome.
Lal put up with a lot. Mr Lal put up with even more.
I love meeting up with fandom people. And not just because of everyone's staggeringly beautiful faces, but because we can sit in a burger joint and talk about fic and walk down a street and chat about boys that are very much in love and also should really be accompanied by ducklings. And watch movies and talk about failing the Bechdel test and just, everything. Making references out loud that are understood! It is magical.
I learn how to make a sword (lots of hammering required) and sorta how to make brownies (lots of sugar required... also having the oven not twice as hot as necessary might have been good) and what Red Vines actually taste like (lots of nothing and disappointment *weeps*)
Anyway, I had a very fun time for which I am very appreciative :D Thanks guys!

My Hay tickets arrived, and so did my Much Ado tickets. Excitement!
Tomorrow I'm going to Devon for two weeks, where internet access can be negotiated but is generally intermittent. Doctor Who will start again! Freaking finally. Also, Easter and the Royal Wedding will happen, fun. Books! Clotted cream! Countryside!

Date: 2011-04-17 01:47 pm (UTC)Okay, so. THESE ARE MY MARK/EDUARDO MEMS. You've probably read a lot of these ones--the best of the best in that list are, in my opinion, Speaking in Tongues; It Might Have Had a Name/With your feet in the air and your head on the ground which are kind of gen-ish but also heart-rending and amazing and just masterpieces, periods; been at this far too long which is a lot better than the name implies--but really, they're all great, as I tend to be pretty picky with what I'll mem'. :D
Also, IDK if you're dabbling into the RPF side of this fandom, but in case you are, I absolutely have to link you to this, which is one of the best things I have ever read, in any fandom. It's short and perfect and, I have no words for it; none at all, but it breaks my heart in so many ways and it's Jesse/Andrew to a tee and dalksdja, a sdliajidjaksdjad.
I CAN'T EVEN HANDLE THIS FANDOM TBH. I've been unable to detach myself from these boys and their crippling emotional issues since the movie came out. They will just not get out of my head!

Date: 2011-04-17 02:36 pm (UTC)I totally intend to get into the actor RPF at some point, because obvs I love them too (ESPECIALLY THE PERFECTION THAT IS ANDREW ODG) and they seriously love each other, and lolololol it has been a long time since RPF was a thing I didn't do. Right now I am concentrating on the characters tho. But yeah, when the inevitable occurs I shall certainly turn to that link. Also, lulz how this movie reminded me that Justin Timberlake and his back catalogue still exists and remains good and perfectly lyric appropriate for this fandom XD IT'S ALL JUST SO INCREDIBLY AWESOME.

Uh, I mean. WELCOME ABOARD. :D? :D? Seriously, it is such a great fandom, with amazing canon and AMAZING fic and everyone is lovely and welcoming and full of joy. I am snuggling down here forever.

Date: 2011-04-18 06:34 am (UTC)THEIRS IS DEFINITELY A BAD ROMANCE. And actually, I suspect maybe all of that album is applicable because I was just listening to Brown Eyes and hell if I'm imagining anything except Mark thinking about Eduardo years down the line. I shall investigate. Also, like, all the Justin Timberlake songs (which this movie remided me existed and now I keep listening to, baffled about how comprehensively I forgot they existed) I like/know of fit really well. Which seems strangely convenient...
I've brought my duvet and some cookies and I never want to leave. K? Great.

Date: 2011-04-17 08:47 pm (UTC)Okay, I've never read HP fic like that either. Sex with a plant, yes, but turning into a plant? Nope.
Also? Lal put up with a lot. Mr Lal put up with even more. Made me lol ^_^

Date: 2011-04-18 10:32 am (UTC)Mr Lal was mostly just dryly amused, I suspect. But yes, what times we had! You guys are the best, I swear, and I enjoyed every second of my enabling. Hurrah!
The Brownie monster remains in my oven. Lurking.
"It's kind of an issue," Eduardo says and shuts the dorm door between him and the ducklings to demonstrate. As soon as he disappears from view they start making a terrible, heartbreaking cheeping noise.
When the tiny thuds start Chris makes a distressed noise and lets them back in. "They were throwing themselves against the door," he says, aghast. The ducklings have now started headbutting Eduardo's ankles, possibly as punishment or, he doesn't know, maybe that's how ducks display affection. Or maybe his ducklings are just demented.
No, not his ducklings. Just, ducklings. Some. Any.
"Wardo," Dustin says, face lit up with horrifying glee. "Wardo, they think you're their Mom."

DUCKLING FIC!!! :D :D :D :D YOU REMAIN FIRMLY THE BEST. I actually kinda screamed just now when I figured out what I was reading. It's so beautiful!
I am glad that Mr Lal was not put out. And um, do actually feel bad about your oven. I'll bring you real brownies made by professionals that know what they are doing to say sorry when we next meet.
