I see how much writing I can do per Starbucks drink. Why does caffeine make me want to write? It is so much more reliable than waiting on regular inspiration. Just now I wrote by hand the scene from freaking Chapter One that I haven't been able to write for like, two and a half years.

Starbucks in magical, y'all, and it cures all ails.

Do you guys write by hand at all, or always straight onto the computer? I told a friend the other day that I often feel more comfortable coming up with ideas, the more pure creativity aspect, and world building and plot arc planning etc etc, by hand on to paper, into various notebooks, and she seemed genuinely surprised that I don't just always go straight for the word doc. Obviously, there is plenty that does go straight from head to computer, and fic especially, I basically always feel uncomfortable writing fic by hand now, although I used to do that rather a lot lol. But yeah. Notebooks ftw.

I type so much faster than I write (and it makes my hands ache so much less!) that I wish I wrote better on the computer. But alas, I am far more inspired creatively if I write out by hand, and then type it up afterwards and edit it as I go. Which takes far, far longer and is probably the reason why I've been rubbish at writing lately. :P Notebooks ftw definitely, I found an old folder of Neighbours fic (OH FIRST FANDOM I EVER WROTE FIC FOR HOW I LOVED YOU <3) the other day and had a glorious time reading all my old notes and outlines and scenes and cringing at some of the bad writing. (But also being pleasantly surprised by some of what my twelve year old self had written!) I'm glad you've found a system that works for you, yay Starbucks! :D

I REMAIN SO JEALOUS BUT I HOPE THAT IT'S AMAZING AND YOU HAVE A GLORIOUS TIME. \o/ WHEN I GET HOME AND FINALLY SEE IT, EVEN IF FINALLY SEEING IT DOESN'T HAPPEN UNTIL IMAX, I WILL FLAIL WITH YOU AND PROBABLY CRY OVER THE TRAGEDY OF OUR LOST CHIDLHOODS.

I like to jot things down by hand when I first get an idea, just to brainstorm plot/characters etc, but then I generally write straight into the computer when I get to the actual fic. I have written out a few scenes by hand though, when I've either been computerless or needed to work something out a little more manually.

OMG enjoy HP!!!!!!!! It is amazing XD (but also super sad because it is THE END ;___;)

I cannot write by hand, everything comes out horrible. ;_; I write like an elementary school kid when it comes to district exams... When I first started writing (fiction), I wrote by hand because there were no computers available, but it like broke my hand every night because I hold my pencil too tightly. And last year, I used a notebook to catalogue plot stuff, but then it got too confusing because one page would be a character sheet for novel #1, then it'd skip to a plot diagram for novel #3, etc. Plus I got too lazy dragging a notebook home everyday. (Apparently, one notebook in the backpack makes a difference when it comes to walking...) So it's all by computer for me, usually.

I... am not going to watch Harry Potter? Have fun, anyway! :)

I type faster than I write if I know what I'm going to say, but I find if I sit down with a favourite pen and a notebook I will be writing much sooner than if I find myself staring blankly at the blinking cursor in a Word doc. I feel more connected by hand I think, so it's better for rawer thoughts and creativity for me. But it's good, because I am so addicted to nice stationery, and it would be a crime if I had all these pens and notebooks and never even used them XD

The big problem with notebooks is obviously losing them, and occasionally refusing to rewrite or rethink something because I know I've already done that bit, it's just in a notebook and I have no clue where. Oops. Backups and typed up notes are your friends, and yet somehow I am never as good at that as I should be. I nobly tried to type up all the notes I made for Shades, the other book I want to write, because I made them all on a pad of paper which is falling apart and some of the pages might fall out and get lost forever D: D: D: but my attention span did not cope so the word doc remains half done. *sighs at myself*

Starbucks is deliciousness + fresh air + music + solitude + comfort + no internet = happiness and creative urges. Hurrah!

IT WAS AMAZING I AM SURE YOU WILL LOVE IT AND QUITE POSSIBLY CRY BUT HOPEFULLY YOU WILL BE HAPPY AND EXCITED AS WELL AS SAD AND DEVASTATED AND BASICALLY IT WILL ALSO MAKE YOU LAUGH SO YOU WILL BE FEELING ALL OF THE EMOTIONS. Selfishly I slightly hope that the IMAX is the first time you see it so that I can witness this.

I loved HP, it was epic and brilliant and super sad and sweet and funny and awesome all at once. I can't wait to see it again lol!

I rather suspect that your idea of jotting down brainstorming is similar to my planning in nature, but *stares at pile of finished notebooks full of nothing but intricate planning and in depth discussion of the pain of characters that hardly even show up* perhaps not to quite the same extent...?
