Over the last year, I have fallen out of love with facebook.
I still go on it every day, because I do still like my friends and it is useful, but I resent facebook. There doesn't seem to be much of an alternative around. This annoys me. Bebo was eaten by MySpace, and MySpace was sucked dry by facebook, but there it seems to have stopped. Perhaps because the whole idea of "social networking" got old - Twitter and tumblr and other places have blown up offering something very different, and facebook stays dominant in a world where there are no longer any natural competing predators.
Whatever. Azz pointed out that Diaspora* is a baby site, basically trying to be facebook but with decent privacy options as far as I can see so far. I am at the cautiously poking it stage. I can't tell whether it will be "the next big thing" or just another flop in the sea of the internet. It's still in private alpha, so no one is there. Yet, I hope.
It has an optional type box for "gender". It might be good.
My point is, would anyone like an invite code and come poke it a bit with me?

Eiffel 65 was just on the radio at the time, but I do like it more than I should probably admit to!
