Life

It's weird not being alone anymore. Meals regularly happen, and without me going shopping. Sometimes the bathroom isn't free. I have to worry about playing music too loud. It's nice though. Conversation is good.

I went to see Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part One. In fact, I've seen it twice now, once on Friday and once on Saturday. I am itching to go see it again, it is so so good.

I was particularly amazed by Emma Watson, who usually annoys me and suddenly seemed to be doing a really really good job acting Hermione brilliantly! She easily carried several scenes, and was poised and just, did a great job.  I don't know what happened to bring on this change, but - Hurrah!

Probably going to do a post about the things I really really loved, but for now, just know that I loved it.

Keen to find a chance to see it in IMAX with laliandra and hanelissar (do other marm fish wanna come too?) sometime, hopefully this side of Christmas.

I feel like I'm getting skinnier, but I don't seem to be losing weight. I'm not sure how that works. I mean, even if I'm losing muscle mass I'd have to be getting fatter for my weight to remain the same. And I'm certainly not replacing fat with muscle at the moment, haven't been to the gym in ages. I'm not trying to lose weight btw, though not to gain it either. Clothes are looser, and sometimes I find myself touching my arms curiously, thinking I'm skinnier in places. But then I feel like my torso is exactly the same.

Perhaps this is some psychological desire/expectation to put on weight for winter, and by not doing so my mind is confused or trying to convince me to?

Nano is not going well, at all, but I just can't feel upset or anxious about it. I've written little, but having written at all just makes me feel all happy and proud. I'm not complaining.

Last night's Garrow's Law was beautiful and heartbreaking. If you don't know, Garrow's Law is a courtroom drama, but set in Georgian London so it is also a period drama and full of social injustice themes. Last night, Garrow was defending a man accused of sodomy, and non consensual sodomy at that, that was facing the death penalty. His accuser was his partner, and that partner's wife, and were the partner to suggest the sex was consensual he too would be facing the death penalty. The whole thing was just fraught.

The accused gay man was played by Andrew Scott, who was Jim Moriarty in Sherlock, and he gave such a beautiful, subtle and heartbreaking performance as a man that can't tell the truth to his own lawyer and despite the situation is still so in love with the man that accuses him. The end was so heartbreaking, there was a real tear in my eye.

If you missed it and can get the iPlayer do watch it, such a good episode. Gorgeous.

Also on TV - tonight, two friends of mine will be on University Challenge. So if you can, watch it!

Ooh, had to skip over the Garrow's Law plot as I haven't seen it yet. Will be my iPlayer indulgence tonight. Can't resist the period and the Old Bailey. I'm a sucker for anything set in past London.

I was also rather amazed at Emma W. I've always thought of her as the weakest actor of the trio, but she came good in this one. But I also think DR was amazing. I'm not an HP shipper, but it was lovely to see the main actors really acting their socks off and getting it right.

I loved Garrow's law, I agree it was heartbreaking and Andrew Scott was mindblowing! My partner and I always watch University challenge-when I say watch I mean attempt to best and humiliate the other one:) Which ones were your friends?

That is the best way to watch it! I know Slingo and Stanton from Peterhouse, so I'm very glad they did actually win, it became so tense at the end!

There is something very delicate, fragile seeming, about Andrew Scott, especially when he was on the brink of tears. He seemed so helpless and resigned and still in love despite it all. Gah. Beautiful.

I keep meaning to watch Garrow's Law (mostly because I love anything 18th-century) but have only seen snippets so far. However, that episode sounds really interesting, plus I loved Andrew Scott in Sherlock. He wasn't what I was expecting from Moriarty at all, but he was amazing nonetheless. I'll definitely have to check it out. :D

YAAAAAAAY HARRY POTTER. Okay, so I ~think I will be in London on Monday 6th December? If you wanted to come bum around with me in London that would be awesome and we could totally go to the imax? I have some days off I have to before Christmas and I'm seeing friends in Richmond the weekend before.

I just watched UC and had great fun. My bf got a whole round of questions about music producers and declared himself victorious and I yelled the names of French kings randomly at the screen... Which were your friends?

Such times!

Oh, I meant to say, if not, I am unlike to be back daan saath until after Christmas because I'm going to the Isle of Man from the 20th and will need my weekends for frantic shopping and the like...

I HAVE MONDAYS OFF SO I CAN TOTALLY COME THEN!

Although actually no, I can't do then. Because PR really REALLY wants to go and see it with marmfish because she cannot go with anyone in Bath so I have promised to go with her. And she sadly has not Mondays off. :( So unless she's willing to skive then I think after Christmas is the best time. Unless you and Isi want to just go on your own in which case please do, I do not want to hold you back!

*inserts obligatory WOO HARRY POTTER!!!!*

Wait, I'm confused - I knew PR wants to do Wicked with us, does she want to do Harry Potter too? I can't believe I haven't even started trying to organise this and it already seems complex.

I think I shall make a marmfish Christmas time meetup post. I was hoping we might be able to go ice skating and have fake sword fights on Millennium Bridge...

I always meant to watch Garrow's Law but never got around to it. So I may have to tune into that episode and try to get into it! It sounds really good and tragic. <33

YAY HARRY POTTER. And total sympathies on NaNo - Play has been word warring with me the past couple of days and I am finally approaching 10k, but I am losing all interest in my protagonists. They're all really annoying. They just sit around snarking at each other being annoying and not getting anything done. I sort of want to clobber them all. *sigh*

Love you! And we will Harry Potter it up at some point!

I haven't seen the first series of Garrow's Law, so this is actually only the second ep I've watched. But it is really really good! (Especially if you like pretty and angst filled gay boys... oh dear, there is no hope for me. Also, if you like wigs, justice and love that can never be. This is so the drama for me.) The last one was about the slave trade, so if you like this one and the previous one is still on the iPlayer watch it too. Or watch them in the right order if you can. Or something. Just go watch.

I cannot understand the appeal of word warring. It scares me. I just like sitting calmly and writing without pressure. I have to say though, if you are loosing interest in your protagonists, that seems like a bad sign. Maybe take some time to step back and think about the bigger picture of your story, rather than focussing on the details of their snarky dialogue, see if you can reconnect to why you liked and were interested in telling this story about these people in the first place. And if you can't correct it or reconnect by the end of the month, then possibly consider something else? There's no point forcing yourself to write a story even you don't enjoy! We do this for the fun, don't we?!

Much love xxx
